Ground drilling drill pipe must have high fatigue strength, elasticity, rigidity and toughness, and strength and toughness are contradictory. The drill rod body of the threaded drill rod is a slender rod, and it is not suitable for complex heat treatment. Only the best heat treatment process can obtain the comprehensive performance of fatigue strength, elasticity, rigidity and toughness for the borehole drilling pipe. 

The two threads of the threaded drill rod are the connecting parts of the whole set of drill tools. Its failure mechanism is fretting and impact wear. Therefore, the surface of the threaded part is required to have high hardness and wear resistance, and the core has sufficient toughness to prevent breaking. As we all know, the properties of materials often have to undergo heat treatment to give full play to their maximum potential. Therefore, the selection of materials is often considered together with the heat treatment process.

RS  ground drilling drill rod is mainly made of CrNiMo alloy steel with low carbon, high strength, high hardenability and high toughness. The carbon content is about 0.23%, and the Ni content is about 3%. The most representative steel grade is 23CrNi3Mo. , The heat treatment process route is: overall carburizing → controlled cooling → overall quenching → low temperature tempering. After integral carburizing, controlled cooling makes the rod body obtain the required hardness, ensuring the rigidity and elasticity of the rod body; subsequent integral quenching and low temperature tempering make the thread surface obtain high hardness and high compressive stress to obtain high fatigue strength and high wear resistance.
